In reception the children have a balance of adult led and child initiated activities. Although we have an overarching topic to our terms these are flexible and allow us to follow the children’s interests across all areas of learning. Our small group sizes mean that the children build strong relationships with each other quickly and can be supported within both adult led and child directed activities. Within our topic work our focus is on developing the skills in a way that interests the child meaning they are highly engaged in their learning. The children have many opportunities to work both indoors and outdoors. They also take part in weekly forest school sessions along with nursery.
